Breckenridge, Colorado is a preferred vacation destination for skiers of all levels because of its varied terrain, amazing powder, and consistently sunny weather. But downtown Breckenridge provides a whole other reason to visit this charming town located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Founded in 1859, Breckenridge holds true to its historic roots with buildings, shops, restaurants, and lodging that are reminiscent of the Old West. For more information on the history of the area, visit the Summit Historical Society's website

Perfect for family vacations, romantic getaways, or taking breaks from college, Breckenridge has a little something to appeal to everyone. Lodging rates and availability fluctuate with the seasons, but Breckenridge lodging includes enough condos, hotels, and private residences to satisfy the taste of any type of traveler.

In the winter, the world-class peaks at Breckenridge come alive with skiers and snowboarders enjoying sunny days and wonderful powder. Breckenridge Ski Resort recently made two improvements, which have made it competitive with the country’s top resorts, Breckenridge now boasts the highest chairlift in North America. It also has a gondola taking skiers and boarders directly to the runs from the parking lot so they can walk out the front door of their ski condo and practically onto the slopes. But not all of Breckenridge’s winter guests come here to ski or ride the mountain; the main attraction for many visitors is exploring private scenery just outside their Breckenridge rentals on snowshoes, cross-country skis, or snowmobiles. Vacationers need not buy or bring their own equipment, as there are numerous rental shops in town with an abundance of inventory.

The ski season starts in November and lasts through April, but the peak times are over the holidays. If you’re planning a trip over Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Year’s, Presidents’ Day, or even Spring Break, make sure to reserve your Breckenridge lodging early because Breckenridge rentals fill quickly! Depending on the number of people in your party, the length of your stay, and your desired amenities, your best rental options usually include Breckenridge condos or private residence rentals. Big groups can usually make their trip to Breckenridge affordable and have a ton of fun if they rent a private home or a few condos in the same complex.

There are many luxurious homes sleeping large numbers of people for rent over the peak seasons. Families, couples, and small groups of friends can find affordable and comfortable accommodations in one to a three-bedroom condominium or townhome rentals. All are more popular choices for Breckenridge lodging than a hotel room for an extended stay because you can save money by buying groceries and cooking for yourself. You can also save money on your Breckenridge lodging by inviting a few more friends along because most Breckenridge rentals include extra beds or fold-out couches. Breckenridge lodging normally includes a hot tub, so you can relax and soak your muscles after a hard day on the slopes and get rejuvenated for the next hard day!

Summers in Breckenridge is another season not to be missed. With a dry climate and temperatures averaging in the upper 70s in July, many visitors come to Breckenridge to escape the heat and humidity elsewhere across the country. The mountain provides even more activities when the snow has melted and outdoor enthusiasts can choose from a number of activities including hiking, biking, golfing, fishing, and rafting, all of which can be found just feet from their Breckenridge rental. But if you are a little less enthusiastic about the great outdoors, Breckenridge is still a special location to visit. Downtown Breckenridge has boutique shopping and restaurant options from casual to fine dining. There are also events planned in Breckenridge nearly every weekend, such as wine tastings, outdoor concerts in the park, beer festivals, jazz fests, farmer's markets, and more.

Although finding Breckenridge lodging in the summer is not as challenging or pricey as it is in the winter, you’ll still need to make rental reservations early. Rentals fill up fast as the secret is getting out that Breckenridge is just as appealing without the snow. Breckenridge rentals hit other peaks during Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the 4th of July. Breckenridge condos are always popular for groups of any size. And during the summer, guests are less likely to prefer that their lodging is on the ski slopes, so the availability of condo rentals is more open and it’s easier to find a great rental in the center of town. Some rentals have an indoor or outdoor pool, so check for that in your lodging if swimming is your thing. The views can be different during the different times of the year, so that may affect the rental prices of your Breckenridge condo as well.

If you’re looking for a great time to get a discount on lodging, consider visiting Breckenridge in the spring or fall. Both are still beautiful times of year but not as busy. Be prepared for anything during these months, however, because the Colorado weather is unpredictable! For example, in April you could ski and golf right outside your Breckenridge rental on the same day so bring appropriate clothing for both. In October, you could find yourself in the middle of a snowstorm or you could be at the park playing frisbee with your dog. Some of the local shops and restaurants close down during the slow times, so if you would rather hike than shop, spring and fall can be wonderful times for a mountain escape in a lovely home or condo.
