Winters in Breckenridge are nothing short of spectacular. People travel from all around the globe to experience world-class skiing and snowboarding that's just minutes from the picturesque downtown. Most visitors don’t realize the full extent of Breckenridge winter activities until they’ve had some time to explore. Breckenridge is synonymous with winter fun, from dog sledge rides and miles and miles of snowshoeing trails to snowmobiling and so much more.

Unlike many resort towns, Breckenridge is a real town. With a population of about 3,000 and a history that begins with gold miners in the 1800s, Breckenridge is an authentic piece of the West. The town itself is as impressive as the mountains surrounding it, and it's full of amenities that make staying here a truly wonderful experience.

Winter Events in Breckenridge

Throughout the ski season, you'll find a variety of interesting events in Breckenridge. Our Breckenridge events calendar gives you a breakdown of some of the town's more popular festivals and events in the winter and the summer. Visitors interested in watching some of the top freeskiers and snowboarders compete will love the Dew Tour. The tour comes to town every year in December for several days of competitions, live music, games, giveaways, and more.

In January, Breckenridge hosts Ullr Fest, honouring Ullr, the "patron saint of skiers." It's a week-long festival that features a parade with floats, crazy competitions, and lots of celebrations. The International Snow Sculpture Championships also take place in January. Visitors can watch talented artists transform huge blocks of snow into amazingly intricate sculptures. In February (or maybe March, depending on the year), you can experience a Mardi Gras celebration like no other. Mardi Gras in Breckenridge offers visitors a chance to enjoy a huge street party complete with beads, floats, and plenty of merry-making.
